7 April, 2022

The Ludwig Armbruster Fellowship Program offers research fellowships to doctoral students enrolled at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem who wish to pursue parts of their doctoral research at Freie Universität Berlin. Established with the generous support of the Zoologischer Garten Berlin AG, the Program invites applications from doctoral students at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in one of the following four academic fields:

  • Veterinary Medicine
  • Biology
  • History
  • Ethics

Applicants can choose their preferred duration for the fellowship (ranging between a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 8 months) and should explain in the application how this aligns with their research agenda. The fellowship amount is € 1.500 per month, plus a one-time relocation allowance of € 1.000. Eligible applicants must be enrolled as doctoral students at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and pursue their doctorate in one of the above-mentioned academic fields at the time of application. Residency in Berlin is required during the fellowship; the fellowship holders will be affiliated with Freie Universität Berlin as guest researchers and must have their host supervisors at Freie Universität Berlin in one of the four eligible academic fields. The fellowships are awarded on an annual basis.

Applications must include the following documents (in English):

  • Curriculum vitae;
  • A motivation letter outlining how the research stay at Freie Universität fits within the doctoral research of the applicant (max. 3 pages);
  • A research outline for the fellowship’s duration, including information on the preferred duration of the fellowship (max. 2 pages);
  • A letter of recommendation from the applicant’s supervisor at the Hebrew University outlining the envisaged benefit of the research stay;
  • A letter from a professor at Freie Universität confirming her/his willingness to act as host supervisor for the fellow.

Deadline for applications in the current round is 28 April, 2022. A joint committee of Freie Universität and the Hebrew University will review the applications and identify successful candidates. Important criteria will be a convincing and well‐planned research project and the overall fit of the research stay. Successful candidates will be informed in May 2022. Fellowships will be awarded for and must begin in 2022.
