The Hebrew University of Jerusalem

Excellence starts with people

Situated in Jerusalem, one of the world’s oldest, holiest and most cherished cities, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem is recognized for its exceptional standard of higher learning rooted both in the academic quality and the diverse nature of its people - teaching staff, scholars and student body.

For over a century, our research and pedagogical excellence have yielded a worldwide top 100 ranking, seven Nobel laureates, a burgeoning technology transfer company, Yissum, that generates 50 patents and $2 billion annually, and more. This motivates and energizes our people to continue to push the envelope in research, societal improvement and providing our students with a superior learning experience. Chief amongst our efforts is internationalization.

Hebrew University’s International Office

Our Internationalization Mission

To help mold and improve our global society through internationalization efforts, including welcoming and supporting international students, forming alliances with universities around the world and overseeing student and staff exchange programs.

What we do and why

In today’s world, a global perspective is the only perspective. Our hopes, our ambitions, our actions and the challenges we face, bind us together tighter than ever before. At Hebrew University, we embrace this approach, firm in our belief that internationalization is key to a better future.

More specifically, through internationalization we strengthen our relationships with worldwide partner institutions and create a thriving campus environment in which international students’ study alongside Israeli students. This, in turn, helps us preserve Hebrew University’s standing as a leading research and academic institution.

Student and staff mobility

The heart of the Internationalization Office’s work is to provide Hebrew University students and faculty, and those of our international partners, with meaningful international academic experiences.

Inbound – We seek to attract, accommodate and, educate international students, scholars and faculty, providing them with a welcoming home away from home. Out efforts on this front include global marketing, expanding the university’s international degree programs, especially graduate programs, and providing a full array of support services, such as pre-arrival assistance and sponsoring social events that  connect between international and Israeli students.

Outbound - We collaborate with partner institutions outside of Israel to afford international opportunities to our own students and teaching staff. Through programs, such as Erasmus+, coupled with our own funding, we facilitate student exchange, as well as placing Hebrew University faculty in short-term teaching and research positions.

Partnerships, a cornerstone for internationalization

Pivotal to the success of our internationalization program is the university’s ability to forge strong and lasting alliances with academic institutions worldwide.  Towards this goal, we work with universities in other countries to construct joint programs, promote student mobility, collaborate in research and engage in faculty and staff exchanges.
