Arriving abroad

Getting started

Once you arrive at your host university, you will have to complete various tasks such as finding housing, opening a local bank account, setting up internet and a local phone line, etc.

The International Office of the host university is there to assist you. As soon as you arrive, we recommend that you visit the host university’s International Office, introduce yourself, and ask for any important information that will prove useful in getting you settled in your home away from home. In addition, many universities have various social centers that you can join for free.

What about changing courses?

The selection of courses published on the university websites is not always accurate and sometimes the courses that you chose in advance do not meet your expectations. As a result, it is possible to change courses after you arrive abroad (usually within the first three weeks of the semester), in conjunction with your home faculty. If the university is closed during the period during which you can change courses, ask for an email agreement from the department advisors with a copy to your home faculty’s academic office/international advisor.

What if I decide to terminate my studies abroad?

If you choose to terminate your studies prematurely for any reason before the end of the semester or year, you must inform the host university’s International Office as well as Hebrew University’s International Office: Liat Gabai (liatga@savion.huji.ac.il) or Elinor Notrika (outgoing@savion.huji.ac.il, for non-European universities).

Note: Hebrew University’s disciplinary regulations also apply to you while you are on a student exchange program abroad.

Participation in the host university’s marketing activities

As someone who was nominated by Hebrew University to participate in a study abroad program, we would be pleased for you to join various informational programs such as fairs or other organizational/marketing activities taking place at your host university.

Remember
You are an ambassador of Hebrew University and will represent the university abroad. You have been given a wonderful opportunity; take advantage of it in the best way possible.

Stay in touch
You’re welcome to follow us on Facebook and on Instagram and share these links with your new fellow students.

You encountered a problem or trouble?

In case of emergency while abroad, contact the closest Israeli embassy or consulate. When you arrive in the foreign country, obtain the contact details of the embassy/consulate’s Situation Room and save them in your phone in case of emergency (hopefully there won’t be any!).

If you have a mental/emotional/other problem, contact the relevant body at your host university. At the same time, it’s important to also inform Liat Gabai and Elinor Notrika at Hebrew University’s International Office: liatga@savion.huji.ac.il , outgoing@savion.huji.ac.il, and copy Jane Turner on the email: janet@savion.huji.ac.il.
