Biomedical Science is a rapidly growing discipline that applies natural and formal science to the development of knowledge, interventions and technology to help diagnose, treat and prevent human disease. The Faculty of Medicine offers both innovative M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs in Biomedical Sciences that integrates practical, hands-on research with theoretical courses in medical and life sciences that explore the human body in health and disease. As a participant in these programs, you will be taught by world-renowned academics, scientists and clinicians, and you will gain a deep understanding of topics including the genetic code and its role in developmental processes, single cell functioning, and the many systems of the human body.
A number of specialization tracks are offered within the framework of our Biomedical Sciences M.Sc. and Ph.D. Programs, including:
*Biochemistry, Metabolism and Endocrinology
*Cell Biology, Immunology, and Cancer Research
*Human Genetics
*Microbiology
*Neurobiology
You can find a detailed description of each of these tracks here.
Our program leverages your undergraduate theoretical and practical knowledge through independent scientific research under the supervision of an experienced, renowned faculty member. As such, you will be required to identify and secure a research supervisor in your preferred area of interest prior to submitting your application for M.Sc. or Ph.D. studies. Our program page is a good place to begin your search, where you can explore the different tracks of specialization and learn more about the researchers associated with each of them.

Program DetailsIn the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, it more evident than ever that public health needs do not remain static. On the contrary, today’s public health professionals are challenged to address increasingly complex and dynamic issues. Hebrew University’s International Master of Public Health (IMPH) is a 12-month program designed to train healthcare professionals on the frontlines of their countries’ healthcare systems. Students in this program flock to Jerusalem from all over the world, among them physicians, nurses and other health professionals, as well as economists, social scientists and experts from other disciplines.
Program participants acquire tools for analyzing public health challenges and designing intervention strategies at the community and national levels. The curriculum covers a broad range of areas such as epidemiology, research methods, and biostatistics; health administration, health economics and health systems; and public health practice, planning, administration and evaluation. A major component of the program is the Community-Oriented Primary Care (COPC) Workshop, which is based on a holistic approach to healthcare delivery at the population level that integrates clinical medicine and public health. See curriculum details here. The IMPH program is one of the programs offered by the Hebrew University-Hadassah Braun School of Public Health and Community Medicine, which is dedicated to educating and training public health professionals in Israel and around the world. The school and its MPH programs are fully accredited by the Agency for Public Health Education Accreditation (APHEA).
Since 1970, nearly 1,000 students from over 100 countries – from low- and high-income regions of the world including North America and Western Europe – have graduated from Hebrew University’s International Master of Public Health program.
Most IMPH graduates return home after completing their degree to assume leadership positions in governmental and non-governmental agencies and in clinical and academic institutions. Program alumni have made impressive contributions to the healthcare systems in their home communities. An active alumni program facilitates continued professional development and personal contact.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, graduates of the IMPH program who hold key public health positions in countries around the world were tasked with setting local policies and coordinating health services and other frontline Covid-19 response activities. Many reached out to their alma mater and former classmates for professional advice and guidance.
The faculty of the Hebrew University-Hadassah Braun School of Public Health and Community Medicine comprises experts in the fields of medicine and public health. They are highly experienced researchers and practitioners, many of whom play pivotal roles in Israel’s first-rate healthcare system. Their fields of expertise range from epidemiology, biostatistics, economics to ethics, health promotion science, and more.
The program’s teaching staff includes experts such as:
Prof. Yehuda Neumark – Associate Professor of Epidemiology and former Director of the Hebrew University-Hadassah Braun School of Public Health and Community Medicine. Prof. Neumark’s research focuses on the epidemiology of alcohol and drug use and misuse, and on the application of information and communication technologies for promoting health among young adults.
Prof. Ronit Calderon-Margalit – Public Health Physician and Associate Professor of Epidemiology at the Braun School, where she serves as Director of the Braun School of Public Health and Community Medicine.
Prof. Ora Paltiel – Associate Professor at Hebrew University-Hadassah Braun School of Public Health and Community Medicine, where she serves as Director of the International MPH Program. Dr. Paltiel’s research interests include cancer and clinical epidemiology and quality of care.
Dr. Yael Bar-Zeev – Public Health Physician, Behavioral Scientist, Epidemiologist, and Tobacco Treatment Specialist, Dr. Bar-Zeev’s research focuses on tobacco control and smoking cessation, specifically in pregnant women and other vulnerable populations.
Dr. Hagit Hochner – Genetic Epidemiologist and Senior Lecturer at the Braun School, Dr. Hochner’s research interests lie in the field of genetic epidemiology, focusing on genetic and environmental risk factors for cardiovascular and metabolic traits and diseases.
