Program Details

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, it more evident than ever that public health needs do not remain static. On the contrary, today’s public health professionals are challenged to address increasingly complex and dynamic issues. Hebrew University’s International Master of Public Health (IMPH) is a 12-month program designed to train healthcare professionals on the frontlines of their countries’ healthcare systems. Students in this program flock to Jerusalem from all over the world, among them physicians, nurses and other health professionals, as well as economists, social scientists and experts from other disciplines.

Program participants acquire tools for analyzing public health challenges and designing intervention strategies at the community and national levels. The curriculum covers a broad range of areas such as epidemiology, research methods, and biostatistics; health administration, health economics and health systems; and public health practice, planning, administration and evaluation. A major component of the program is the Community-Oriented Primary Care (COPC) Workshop, which is based on a holistic approach to healthcare delivery at the population level that integrates clinical medicine and public health. See curriculum details here.

The IMPH program is one of the programs offered by the Hebrew University-Hadassah Braun School of Public Health and Community Medicine, which is dedicated to educating and training public health professionals in Israel and around the world. The school and its MPH programs are fully accredited by the Agency for Public Health Education Accreditation (APHEA).

Career & Networking

Since 1970, nearly 1,000 students from over 100 countries – from low- and high-income regions of the world including North America and Western Europe – have graduated from Hebrew University’s International Master of Public Health program.

Most IMPH graduates return home after completing their degree to assume leadership positions in governmental and non-governmental agencies and in clinical and academic institutions. Program alumni have made impressive contributions to the healthcare systems in their home communities. An active alumni program facilitates continued professional development and personal contact.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, graduates of the IMPH program who hold key public health positions in countries around the world were tasked with setting local policies and coordinating health services and other frontline Covid-19 response activities.  Many reached out to their alma mater and former classmates for professional advice and guidance.
