Program Details

The MSc program in Applied Physics attracts students in pursuit of a path of study that integrates physics research with technological development. Designed to allow students to deepen their scientific knowledge in their field of expertise, the program offers hands-on experience with basic technologies in the chosen field, and provides knowledge in other branches of science and engineering that are relevant to their chosen field of expertise. Our MSc program offers four specialization tracks:

  • Optoelectronics
  • Microelectronics
  • Nanoscience and Nanotechnology
  • Quantum Technologies

Studies combine theoretical courses, both mandatory and elective, with independent research under the mentorship of a renowned faculty member, and include the completion of a research thesis and a final oral exam, as per the degree requirements.

Many of our graduates pursue careers in high-tech, chemical and environmental industries, computer and electronics engineering, computer science, energy and nanotechnology, physics research (industrial, academic, and government), medical physics, and more.  Our MSc program is an excellent steppingstone for advanced research, and many graduates pursue doctoral studies and academic careers, holding faculty positions at leading institutions around the globe.

The Department of Applied Physics

Founded in the late 1960’s, the Department of Applied Physics is located on the Edmond J. Safra campus at Givat Ram. Home to a cohort of innovative scientists and engineers, the Department is dedicated to expanding our understanding of natural phenomena and to harnessing this knowledge to advance applied science and technology and, ultimately, improve our lives.

The Applied Physics Department is at the frontier of physics research, engaging in the high-tech fields of nanotechnology, optoelectronics, microelectronics, and quantum technologies. It encompasses 12 research groups and several research centers, including nanofabrication, miniature integrated systems, and nanocharacterization. Since its founding, the Department boasts many hundreds of MSc and PhD graduates. Our long-standing tradition of teaching and research, coupled with our state-of-the-art facilities and the mentorship of our prestigious faculty draws students and researchers from across the globe, many of whom continue on to make significant contributions to society as researchers, educators, and industry leaders.

Admission Requirements

In order to be considered for our MSc program, all applicants must undergo an admissions interview and submit the following documentation:

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Bachelor’s degree in physics or electric engineering from a recognized institution of higher learning.
  • Cumulative GPA of 85 or above.
  • One-page statement of interest and/or summary of previous research experience.
  • Official transcript of study from your bachelor’s degree.
  • 2 academic letters of recommendation.
  • English language proficiency (TOEFL and IELTS are recognized).

In addition, applications for our MSc program are submitted via a two-step process:

  1. At the university level: complete your application online.
  2. At the Faculty of Science level: set up an account on the university’s registration system, complete the online form, and provide the necessary supporting documents.

Tuition & Scholarships

Hebrew University offers full tuition scholarships to MSc students in research tracks in Natural and Exact Sciences.
Additional merit-based and need-based scholarships and living stipends may be available.
