Call for Applications Short International Teaching Visits at Hebrew University in Academic Year 2023-24

13 November, 2022

Applications for the 2023-24 academic year are now being accepted.

Application Deadline: 10 January 2023

Background
The International Office is pleased to support academic units in inviting prominent international faculty members from leading universities to join the Hebrew University for short-term teaching visits. Such visits offer a number of potential benefits, including the continued cultivation of our institutional partnerships, the opportunity for shared knowledge and teaching methods amongst our faculty, and the exposure of our students to global academic perspectives.

HUJI units and their faculty members are encouraged to reach out to relevant world-class international academics regarding a potential teaching visit at the Hebrew University during the 2023-24 academic year.

Teaching Requirements

  • The proposed course must offer a minimum of 2 academic credits (28 in-class contact academic hours of 45 minutes each).
  • The course should be of relevance to the academic unit’s study programs.
  • The language of instruction must be English or, in exceptional cases, the specific non-Hebrew language of a program.
  • The minimum duration for a teaching stay is 2 weeks.
  • The course is conditional upon a minimum enrollment of 5 students. As such, the degree of attractiveness of the course topics should be carefully considered in order to ensure sufficient interest and registration.

Eligibility
Faculty members from foreign academic institutions are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to academics from our strategic and key partner institutions – see here for details.

Financial Reimbursement
The International Office will provide each visiting faculty member with a one-time sum of $7,000, to be paid following completion of the course. This sum includes an honorarium and expenses such as accommodation, flights, health insurance and travel. (Please note that VAT will be deducted from this sum prior to transfer to the visiting faculty member).

Application Procedure
Applications should be submitted to the International Office and include the following required documents:

  • Syllabus for the proposed course;
  • Letter of endorsement by host HUJI academic unit, confirming that the proposed course fits into at least one of the unit’s degree programs and complements existing courses;
  • CV of invited academic, including a short list of recent publications.

Applications should be submitted as a single PDF file to Keren Sagi, Email: kerensa@savion.huji.ac.il with the words “Application for Short International Teaching Visit 2023-24” in the subject line.

Selection Process and Notification of Results
The selection process will include two stages:

1. Following the deadline, applications will be forwarded to the relevant faculties/schools for ranking.
2. The International Office will collate and select the applications for funding based on the faculty rankings, while taking into consideration the availability of funding.
3. The International Office will notify the applicants and faculties/schools of the outcomes within one month of the application deadline.

Nominated candidates will receive a formal letter of invitation from the relevant host academic unit, including the details of the approved visit, financial terms, and general regulations.
