The magazine Physics World has announced its list of 10 leading breakthroughs of 2023, featuring the pioneering research of Prof. Jay Fineberg's of the Racah Institute of Physics at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem's Faculty of Sciences.

Prof. Fineberg discovered that that cracks in certain materials can spread faster than the speed of sound and are a critical element in the strength of materials, causing the creation of shock waves in the material in which they are formed.
