Empowering Women in the Sciences: New Initiative from the Hebrew University
The Hebrew University is thrilled to announce an exciting new initiative for female undergraduate students in Computer Science or Mathematics. As part of the initiative, a free first year of study will be provided for the first time to all female students accepted into the Computer Science or Mathematics programs in Hebrew for the 2025 academic year (NOTE: the scholarship applies only to the Hebrew programs).
This ground-breaking initiative is part of the University’s commitment to encouraging women to integrate and excel in the exact sciences. By reducing financial barriers, the program aims to support more women in entering and thriving in a traditionally underrepresented field.
Why This Matters
Prof. Tamir Shefer, Rector of the Hebrew University, emphasized that the initiative is a significant step towards closing the gender representation gap in the exact sciences and enabling more women to pursue higher-level roles in the high-tech and science industries. Additionally, Prof. Sarah Cohen, Dean of the School of Engineering and Computer Science, noted that providing scholarships to talented women studying technology and science will make entering the field more accessible, boosting representation and further driving innovation through increased diversity.
“We believe that this scholarship will help remove at least one barrier that prevents equal representation of women and help make the field more equal.” Prof. Sarah Cohen, Dean of the School of Engineering and Computer Science
“The gap between men and women studying these subjects is a worldwide issue that begins at an early age, when fewer girls choose to study sciences in high school. Often, claims are made that these subjects are perceived as difficult, and the image of the high-tech world as a male province also discourages many women. We believe that this scholarship will help remove at least one barrier that prevents equal representation of women and help make the field more equal,” Prof. Cohen added.
