Decoding Evolution Through the World of Venoms
Prof. Yehu Moran's laboratory investigates how complex molecular defense systems evolve under strong evolutionary pressure, focusing on venom and immune systems. The group studies the forces that drive the origin, diversification, and long-term maintenance of these systems, from individual molecules and cells to interactions between organisms in their natural environments. Combining molecular biology, evolutionary biology, and ecology, the lab uses cnidarians, including sea anemones, corals, jellyfish, and hydras as model organisms to uncover general principles governing the evolution of biological complexity.
