Oct. 26 | A Touching Tale of Resilience

26 October, 2023

Amid the ongoing conflict, the Hebrew University Veterinary Hospital in Beit Dagan has been tirelessly working to save and rehabilitate dozens of dogs and cats that have come to them.

One of the dogs under their care is Mika, a 7-year-old mixed breed from Kibbutz Nir Oz. When the attack on the kibbutz commenced, she sought refuge in a safe room with her family, including a couple and three small children. When Hamas militants attempted to breach the secure door and resorted to gunfire, Mika was injured in her back.

Tragically, as the terrorists set fire to the house, the family managed to escape through a window, but injured Mika also fled, and she went missing.

Finally, on Sunday evening, more than a day after the attack, a reserve officer found her in the Kibbutz area and rushed her to the Hebrew University Veterinary Hospital in Beit Dagan, where she received life-saving treatment.

Mika's owners were located in a hotel in Eilat where kibbutz survivors were evacuated. The joy and relief they felt upon discovering Mika's safe return were immeasurable. Dr. Iris Green, an emergency and intensive care specialist who treated Mika, expressed, "Mika is a captivating, brave dog, and we are proud that we were able to save her. She and her family managed to survive the ordeal, and we eagerly await the moment when they can be reunited, after Mika makes a full recovery."

This story is a testament to the unwavering dedication and compassion of our veterinary hospital's team. We will continue to provide care for animals in need during these challenging times.
