Partnership History

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the University of Melbourne (UoM) signed a memorandum of understanding in 2008 to foster exchange and research a research workshop in Melbourne or Jerusalem. Ten joint workshops have been held to date, six in Melbourne and four in Jerusalem.

Additionally, in 2019 the Jerusalem-Melbourne Joint PhD Program was launched to enable pairs of HUJI and UoM faculty members to co-supervise 2 PhD students (one at each institution) and provide them with a global research experience. 8 such pairs have been selected for funding to date. PhD students in the program are enrolled in both institutions and spend at least one year at the host institution abroad. Upon successful completion of the PhD research, students are eligible to receive a PhD from both institutions.

Both programs aim to facilitate collaborations promoting knowledge exchange and fostering idea development, encourage student exchange, training and academic cooperation, and enable joint research proposals to external funding agencies.
