Health Insurance

All Hebrew University students and post-doctoral fellows who are not Israeli residents or citizens must have Israeli health insurance coverage while they are students at the Hebrew University.

The insurance can be arranged through the Hebrew University or independently.

Insurance via Hebrew University (recommended)
Students that live in Jerusalem can opt for the below health policy options:

  • Harel with “Clalit” Health Medical Organization (HMO)recommended:
The medical services are provided in the Clalit clinics. Most of the services here are under the same roof (pharmacy, laboratory services, physicians).

  • Harel Private Health Services – Health Insurance Collective Policy:
The medical services under this policy are provided in private clinics, laboratories, and pharmacies that have an agreement with Harel Insurance Company.

Both of the above collective university policies provide the same coverage - comprehensive coverage for pregnancy, psychological services, emergency flight evacuation, and more which are not necessarily included in other health insurance policies.

Note that the main difference is that the Harel Clalit Health Services provide coverage for the Covid 19 vaccinations and thus we recommend this plan.

Faculty of Agriculture, Rehovot – for students and post-doctoral fellows living in Rehovot, the only medical services available are via Harel with Clalit as there are no private services that can be offered in Rehovot.

Rothberg International School (RIS) students should purchase their insurance via RIS and should contact Rothberg School.

Insurance Arranged Independently
For international students who opt to independently purchase health insurance, we strongly recommend that you purchase a health insurance policy with one of the 4 HMOs (Leumit, Maccabi, Meuchedet, Clalit) in Israel, or with insurance companies that provide health services through the HMOs due to Covid 19 vaccination coverage.

We encourage you to do your own market research. There are of course many more options in the market with English service, however, it is important to note that the above university policy of independent options is with Israeli HMOs.

Please note: HUJI International has no responsibility for the services provided by any of the above companies.

If you have insurance from the HMOs that is not through the university, please fill out the waiver form (link to download form) and send it to int_insurance@savion.huji.ac.il

Renewal of Health Insurance
Notice: The insurance company is not obligated to send a reminder for those who need to extend the insurance. The extension is the responsibility of the student.

Additionally, note that you will need to present an updated health insurance policy when you submit a request for a visa renewal.

The policy will be sent to the student's email by the health insurance company.

International Exchange students

International Exchange students at the Hebrew University, including part-time and external students, must have health insurance coverage through Harel Insurance for the period of their studies.
